Kristian Bredin was born in 1964 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He studied composition with
Carl-Axel Hall 1991 - 1993
and with Professor
Ole Lützow-Holm at the
School of Music and Musicology in Gothenburg,
1993 - 1997 in the Composition Class and 1997 - 1999 in the Post Graduate Diploma Class.
He has taken part in "V International Composition Course
Franco Donatoni" in Mexico City,
a Composition Course/Masterclass in Bergen, Norway with
Klaus Huber,
a Masterclass in Viitasaari, Finland with
Helmut Lachenmann,
the Composition Course at Foundation Royaumont in France with
Brian Ferneyhough, Jean-Marc Singier and
Antoine Bonnet and twice in the Composition Course in Szombathely, Hungary with
Marco Stroppa, Manuel Hidalgo and
Michael Jarrell.
1998 he had a collaboration with
Oslo Sinfonietta in Norway. This was a one-week workshop as a preparation
for the performance of the piece
Forma during the
UNM festival in Oslo that year.
1999 he was Composer in Residence at
Musik i Väst in Gothenburg.
He is a member of The
Society of Swedish Composers since 2000.
2002 he made his debut with a
Guitar Concerto with
Peter Larsson and the
Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra,
and has since worked with ensembles such as
The Gothenburg Chamber Soloists,
the vocal ensemble
VOX and the ensemble
Gageego!,
resulting in performances of
Guises III at
Nalen in Stockholm 2002 and at the
GAS festival in Gothenburg 2003, and of
Guises I +
La mémoire, l'oubli at
Stenhammarsalen in Gothenburg 2003.
During summer 2004 he took part in an orchestra workshop with the
Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway.
In summer 2009 he participated in the
New Music Incubator in Norberg, Sweden. He also played live with
Johannes Bergmark at the
Norberg Festival in July.
Important performances has been the world premiere of
Ombres by
Norrköping Symphony Orchestra 1996,
the performance of
Guises I, Ombres, Croquis + two short movies at the
CNM festival in Gothenburg 1997,
the performance of
Green at
Foundation Royaumont 1998 and at the
Donatoni Festival in Mexico City 1999,
the world premiere of
Guises II at
Artisten and of
Din mun var vallmo at
Nybrokajen 11 in Stockholm 2000,
the performance of
Avbild during the
Diabelli projekt in Gothenburg 2001, and of
Du blir min båge av ljus by the vocal quartet
Vox during a concert tour in Västra Götaland
and in Kasan in Russia 2002.
In 2006 the Organ piece
Présence de loin was premiered in
Hagakyrkan,
Gotheburg by
Ulrike Heider, the Clavichord piece
Skuggspel was premiered at
The Stockholm Music Museum by
Joel Speerstra, the
Guitar Concerto was broadcast twice by
National Swedish Radio
and the piece
Aria spaziosa was broadcast several times by
National Swedish television.
In 2008 the piece Näktergaletyd I was premiered
by
Martin Fogel and
Ann Elkjär at the
International Lidköping Music Festival.
Fogel and Elkjär also played the piece in 2009 at a concert in
Music Salon Sun Grace
in Fuchu, Japan.
Three poems to silence: No.1
was played during the same summer by
Max Wulfson at the
International Kalv Festival.
Présence de loin was played by Ulrike Heider at the International
Kalv Festival in 2014, and both Etyd vid tystnadens gräns and Skuggspel
was played in 2015, also at the International Kalv Festival.
